We call it tachyphylaxis when a drug no longer becomes effective or becomes less effective with successive doses. Does this happen in GLP-1 RAs? Does our body start to adapt? Find out the answers here.

The brain and Obesity. Part 3 – The Modern Brain

As I’ve mentioned earlier in this series, our brains have two parts: the primal and the modern. Now, let’s talk about the other player: the Modern Brain (aka the prefrontal cortex). This is the part of our brain that separates us from the animals.

What kind of influence and control does it have over our primal brain? Join me to find out.

The Brain and Obesity. Part 2 – The Primal Emotional Brain

The primal part of our brain is always working in the background. Other than being focused on our survival, the thoughts our primal brain most often have are around our emotions. And, it tends to focus largely on negative emotions. In this article/video, I’m going to talk about the negativity bias of our primal emotional brain and how it comes into play regarding our weight. Do we need to try to control it? Find out more with me here.

The Brain and Obesity. Part 1 – The Primal Brain

There are two parts to the brain: the primal and the modern. In this article and video, we will look at the elements of the primal brain (the limbic brain) and its involvement in managing our weight. What is the Golden Ticket to Weight-loss?

So, what is the key to weight-loss? Which diet is the best? Which supplement or magic pill will make it all happen? The lifestyle and fitness industries are currently worth billions of dollars and it is predicated on selling you the lie that you are not worthy if you are overweight, obese, and unhealthy. For every single diet or craze that has hit the market, I can find you at least one individual for whom this particular diet or method worked, and allowed them to finally lose weight. Ultra-processed Foods. The Bane of Obesity?

Alright, let’s talk about food. Now, this is an interesting topic. Individuals who struggle with obesity are constantly told if they would just stop eating so much, they wouldn’t have obesity. Ozempic isn’t the only weight-loss medication on the block. Today, I want to talk about Contrave! The new but old kid on the block. What do I mean by that? Well, the medication known as Contrave is newish to the market, especially the Canadian market, but it is made up of two older medications that have both been around for some time! A few geniuses in our world realized that bupropion and naltrexone on their own lead to some weight-loss, and they thought, “Well, if one is good. More is better?” They were right! But, how does it work? Get some answers with me here!

Are we doing Intermittent Fasting wrong?!

Time Restricted Feeding or TRF. Let me tell you about it! I mean, technically, it is a form of Intermittent Fasting (IF). You know, the diet where millennials made skipping breakfast cool? For those of you who do not know about IF, basically, it is a method of eating where you alternate between fasting and eating periods. Hence the title, intermittent fasting or intermittent eating, but the latter does not sound nearly as cool – which my generation places in high regard. I’m diving into the research behind IF and TRF to find out if we are doing it all wrong, or have some people gotten it right?
