A (re)introduction to Dr. Dan!

If you are already following me, thank you for the ongoing support. I honestly never imagined my channel would grow the way it has! If you are new here, welcome! Let me introduce myself and tell you what I do here!

You likely found me because you are on a weight loss journey, or have struggled with your weight. Maybe you want to know more about the new medications that are becoming all the buzz or how you can lose weight in a sustainable way. Regardless, you came to the right place.

So let me tell you a bit about my journey, qualifications, and why you should hit that subscribe button!

Let’s get into it.

Who am I?

My name is Dan, or as my patients and clients affectionately refer to me, Dr. Dan.

I have struggled with my weight and body dysmorphia for as long as I can remember. Throughout my teens, I was teased and bullied for my weight. I started going to the gym when I was 12 years old to get ‘buff’ and ‘lean’’ (Arnold Schwarzenegger was my idol), to stop the bullying and get the girls.

My plan did not work out.

When I was 16 years old I got jumped at a party and had my jaw broken. For the next 6 weeks, I had my jaw wired shut and had to drink my food through a straw. Including Christmas Dinner – Turkey doesn’t blend well. However, Chunky soup on the other hand made a great liquid slurry!

In the process, I lost some 40lbs and my life changed forever. Suddenly I was skinny. The bullying stopped and I was getting all kinds of attention from the opposite sex. Not to mention I had some lingering trauma from the whole getting jumped thing.

Needless to say all the above lead to an obsession with the gym, food, and doing whatever it takes to stay lean and add on muscle. Despite learning to eat and work out, adding some muscle, the Dan I saw in the mirror was still small, scared, and weak. So I kept going. Kept working out. Kept hating my body. Kept nitpicking my food.

It wasn’t until my late 20s and into my 30s that I really started unpacking my bullsh*t. Something that will be a lifelong project.

Nonetheless, via my own journey, my ridiculous amount of education – 10 years of university, 3 degrees including my Doctor of Pharmacy and more certificates, courses, and further education than I can count since graduating, and practicing as a pharmacist I found my passion in helping other people in managing their weight, lifestyle, and living their happiest and healthiest life!

On top of that, I am a bodybuilder, x-country skier, hiker, outdoor enthusiast, Calgarian, Canadian, Researcher, and Speaker.

Why the hell should you subscribe?

  • My Youtube channel started as a side project and has evolved into my main social media platform. Probably because I like talking.
  • On YouTube, I review the evidence around Obesity medicine, obesity medications, lifestyle modifications, behavior, psychology, emotional regulation, and provide practical strategies to help as many people as possible!
  • There is a lot of disinformation and garbage out there peddled by quacks. With my channel, I do my best to provide the science of what is happening.
  • Sometimes I can be funny. Sometimes.

So if that sounds alright and perhaps you would like some motivation and empowerment then you are in the right place and you should probably subscribe below!

As a final point – to make my lawyer happy I need to add that everything I talk about here is for educational purposes ONLY. Please discuss your personal health concerns with your care team. As well I am not your personal pharmacist and hell if my regulatory college asks I am not a ‘pharmacist’ at all in my videos!

Otherwise, welcome! I look forward to connecting with you!
